Hakuna Matata in Neu-Ulm

Taste was good. We had hoped for more for the price of the 2-person plate.

Very delicious food!

The Hakuna Matata offers traditional Eritrean dishes. The menu is very clear, but has something for everyone: vegan, hot, mild, chicken, beef. The meat is halal. The waitress gave us a little briefing on how to eat Eritrean. I found that very attentive and enriching. The ambience is very relaxed and dignified. The food tastes great, fresh and aromatic. You feel completely at ease in this restaurant and I will definitely continue to dine there and recommend it to others. 5 stars are more than deserved!

I was really super surprised ... we ate maadi and it was really good ... the service was super nice ... food was super good. Drinks good too .. thanks for the great evening ... we'll be back

The restaurant is very conveniently located in Neu Ulm. There is also a parking garage 100m away. The red taurant is simply but appropriately decorated and in the evening it is in dimmed candelight dinner-like conditions. As starters there is a sambusa filled with minced meat, with spinach or with lentils, or one of all. There is also Katena, 2 fresh flatbreads with Eritrean butter. Both absolutely recommendable. There are also not 2 salads but we didn't try them. So the main course we had maadi, rin mic from all vegetarian dishes, as well as various dishes with beef. There are also fresh flatbreads again. The food is served in a large plate with flat bread. The bowls are then tipped onto the flatbread and eaten with the flatbread provided. At the end you can use the flatbread base to finish everything. The whole thing is rounded off by a banana cream desert. All the food that we were allowed to taste tasted excellent and were wonderfully varied. I can absolutely recommend the Hakuna Matata and recommend everyone to give it a try.

This one star is one too many. Waited three quarters of an hour for the drinks and another hour for the food. The food is too bland, too boring, too little. More suitable for someone who has no teeth. Very mushy everything and tastes the same. Very disappointing!!!

Very tasty food! There would have been cutlery too, but it was better with your hands :)

Very friendly and courteous service. Delicious and aromatic food. The food is served in clay bowls and with Injeras (a kind of hearty pancake (made from teff flour)). These serve as a side dish as well as "cutlery". You grab the food with a small piece of the Injeras, so your fingers don't get dirty. (If you want to be on the safe side, you can of course also eat with cutlery. But you miss a unique experience.)

Food was very good. Friendly and helpful service staff. Eritrean cuisine is interesting and not too spicy. We will come back for sure.

A little pearl in the (new) Ulm gastro scene. Very delicious food in a family atmosphere and great ambience. Friendly service and reasonable price-performance ratio. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back!

Have eaten here before and think it gets better every time. Very nice and courteous service. Didn't have to wait long for the order. Of course there is delicious and authentic Eritrean food and a great atmosphere on top of that. A short note on old reviews: many simply do not apply (more), for example there were napkins and refreshing towels. The owner seems to respond to comments quickly and Usually you go washing your hands if you have eaten without cutlery;)

For my birthday I was invited to a large plate of injera food. It was super tasty and a lot of fun. The service has been friendly and courteous. Would love to come back.

Delicious food. Slightly spicy. The bread is very nutritious. Very friendly staff, but not the fastest. If you want to try something new, you've come to the right place.

I came back for a second time now and again, the food was great and the service as well. Can't quite understand why people rate this place badly. Were instantly asked what we would like to order and the house special (see picture) was really really nice. Can only recommend!

The service was very friendly. Although the place was quite full at the beginning, the ordering and delivery of drinks and food went very quickly. Unfortunately it was uncomfortably cold in the restaurant. I had soot, which was unfortunately stale. The four of us had the house specialty. These were four small bowls with different dishes and four cakes. Unfortunately, far too little for four people, was not enough in the beginning, although we still ordered flatbread. € 12.90 per person is too expensive if you don't get enough.

Good food and extremely friendly staff. The appetizer and main courses were amazing however, the desert not so much. Overall would definitely recommend the place.

Very tasty and exotic. Cozy furnished and nice hosts. On the weekend it is very crowded ...... Bring patience and remember that you are in Africa since ...... Cooked here with love and the whole family helps. Nice that there is such a restaurant in Neu-Ulm

Can only join me. Super nice little restaurant but for a hammer. Very nice staff. Everything has been explained 👍🏻 high. Eats excellent entrees and main course eaten. Serves super delicious right size and above all, delicious. Definitely worth a visit if you want to eat something different. Please keep it up.

The food was very good, the service very friendly every time the ambience very pleasant. The price / performance ratio is absolutely i. O. I'll probably go there more often.

Very nice and tasty too. Relatively long wait for the food. As usual, it is eaten with hands, but unfortunately you get neither a napkin nor wet wipes. We had to help ourselves then with Babyfeuchttüchern ... Would be nice to the main courses still vegetables (for example Okras), African butter or couscous. But even if the dishes are kept very simple (Injera and meat), they are really delicious taste.
